A lot has been stated in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive aid to assist in keeping the industry afloat. But does the web variation of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo is an familiar game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had seen a recent increase in appeal with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the legislating of the anti smoking law across UK.

No longer will gamblers be able to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common locations where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Profits have plunged and the industry is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not given up on this established game?

The answer is on the net. Gamblers know that they can wager on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the social aspect of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the law has left a good many bingo players with no choice.
